Short week, project’s in good shape, and my work is being very well received. I could step up the pace, but I’m working at an optimal pace: not fast enough to make mistakes and not slow enough to be slacking off, so I don’t think I’ll be doing that. I’m not sure what, but I know the worst thing I can do right now is to just coast along, so this might be the week to try applying some new skills.
In college, I learned some project management skills including building Gantt charts and working in Microsoft Project. Much of the work I’m doing right now is the outcome of project management planning, so I was thinking of asking the project manager directly about programs he uses to plan the project.
If he uses Microsoft Project, then I could scope out my work and send it along to him, so I’d be translating my work into his lingo.
Or if he’s open to suggestion, I might say “try out the brainstorming program XMind,” which can also be use to plan out projects, since a project is basically a larger task with dependencies. Writing this post isn’t a project. Building this website was a project. Tasks included buying the domain, building the WordPress infrastructure, and deciding on the format for post length and tags.
Other than that, no big plans for conquering the work this week. Maybe I should change that…
Next weekend, I’ll also write my monthly projection and I think it’s been enough time to update my resume. Maybe I’ll write about that, since right now it’s perfectly targeted for a Desktop Support job, although maybe it should instead be targeted at an even bigger and more ambitious future.
Maybe this’ll be the week to aim a little higher?
